My name is Matsobane Frans Leso and I am the executive director of the Daycare Preschool Group. I started by volunteering my time to three Daycare centers and a Preschool. I helped the founders of the Daycare centers to raise funds and donations for their good cause, as that was where the greatest need was. I knew how not having money affected my family and me, by not been able to further my studies. From the bottom of my heart, I decided to volunteer in those three daycare centers and the preschool, from February 2006 until 2010! In 2010 we saw that we facing the same problem in all the other Daycare centers in the area.  We have now grouped all the Daycare Centers and Preschool’s in the area to form the DAYCARE PRESCHOOL GROUP !

Daycare Preschool Group is a Nonprofit organization facing the challenges in South Africa, particularly in informal settlements (Mzabalazo) known as Ivory Park and Tembisa in Ekurhuleni city, Midrand, Johannesburg. Our approach takes into account the unique challenges and needs facing children and their families in the community of Ivory Park. We need to show humanity to children in SA because we cannot wipe the problems under the carpet. Children are suffering, while the population is growing by huge numbers in this area. Starvation, lack of shelters, the risk of children disappearing or getting lost, cholera, malaria, malnutrition, are all affecting the children and it is also a big challenge to the parents and residents of the area. We need to show humanity as we are responsible to the development of our nation. We need to take responsibility to ensure that the children of today become the future presidents, doctors, teachers, politicians, scientists and engineers.

Lots of children are roaming around the streets with torn clothes, empty stomachs and not looking healthy. Some of the reasons are that parents are not working, or they are earning too little, some kids have no parents, children are raised by single parents, and of course some are infected with HIV/AIDS. Many parents never attended school themselves due to various reasons and this mindset is passed on to their children. It is shocking to watch children who are not attending our facilities looking through the gates and envying the children inside. Unfortunately with our limited resources it is impossible to accommodate all of them and many parents have a problem just feeding their children as the month progresses.
